Why Khabo Zondo wants to start his coaching qualifications from scratch
Royal AM co-coach Khabo Zondo insists he doesn’t mind starting from scratch in terms of his coaching qualifications if need be.
Zondo was part of the group of coaches who recently completed the CAF C license coaching course.
He says the recent coaching course was like a refresher for him.
“Every opportunity you get as a coach to go and learn or improve your knowledge of football, you should grab it. It’s very important that every coach should be in a position to do it. So for me, it was more like a refresher,” he said.
The 60-year-old has done the SAFA introductory course, SAFA 1 and 2 as well as the SAFA pro license.
But he is barred from sitting on the bench for CAF Interclub competitions as his qualifications do not meet the requirements.
A head coach should hold a CAF A or Pro license to sit on the bench for CAF matches. An assistant must have a CAF B.
Zondo explains to FARPost that other coaches who have done the SAFA pro license have seen their licenses converted. But he still awaits CAF to do the same for him.
KHABO ZONDO TO COMPLETE CAF A LICENSE
Zondo also told this publication that he is due to complete his CAF A license next month.
“To be honest my license was supposed to be converted to a CAF license,” he said.
“Because if you look at the other coaches that got the CAF A license that attends the same class with me before their licenses have been converted.
“So I was hoping that SAFA and CAF will do likewise for those coaches that their licenses are not converted. But if that doesn’t happen then it means one can still go back and start afresh,” added Zondo.
“But I hope sense will prevail and that people will do the correct thing. I mean it’s only that CAF has to finish what they started, which is conversion. Because seriously one has done the license much higher than the course that I attended recently.
“However, it’s no train smash; if it means that one has to go back again and do the same, so be it. Now in December, I hope to be in a class for CAF A license as well.”
