Why Ugandan midfielder opted against renewing SuperSport United contract

Ugandan midfielder Moses Waiswa has finally disclosed the reasons behind his decision against extending his contract with SuperSport United.

Waiswa left the DStv Premiership side in June this year to join KCCA FC back home in the Ugandan Premier League as a free agent.

The 25-year-old signed a two-year contract with the Kampala-based team in what was a surprise move.

Waiswa has now followed the footsteps of his father Ali Waiswa, who also played for KCCA.

MOSES WAISWA HAS NO HARD FEELINGS WITH SUPERSPORT

Waiswa has since told KCCA Television that he left SuperSport in search of more game-time.

“I made the decision of returning home even before my contract at SuperSport United had expired,” he said.

“That is why I decided not to renew my contract for a further year since I wanted to re-establish myself and there was no better place than returning home.”

The Ugandan international says he has no hard feelings with the Gavin Hunt-coached side.

Moses Waiswa says SuperSport took good care of him especially when he was injured.

“SuperSport took care of me at the time I was injured and they also helped me in various ways but it all goes back to football as a career,” he added.

“I want to gain from it and to achieve my goals. I should be playing which was not the case at SuperSport.”

MOSES WAISWA FEARED FOR UGANDA’S CRANES CHANCES

Moses Waiswa feared that the limited game-time at the South African club SuperSport could have affected his chances of earning the Uganda Cranes selection.

The Ugandan made 15 appearances at SuperSport across competitions and felt it was not enough.

He had signed for the Tshwane-based outfit from another Ugandan club Vipers.

The midfielder had, before moving to Vipers also had a stint in Sweden with teams such as Voxja and Sriansyka FC.

Moses Waiswa was among Ugandan players based in South Africa alongside the likes of Denis Onyango and Brian Onyango of Mamelodi Sundowns and Richards Bay’s Salim Jamal Magoola.
