Four takeaways from the Carling Black Label/ PSL partnership

The Premier Soccer League and the South African Breweries’ leading brand Carling Black Label further strengthen their partnership following the rebranding of Telkom Knockout, which will now be known as the Carling Knockout Cup. Here are four things you need to know about the competition.

1. Competitions

The Carling Knockout Cup will have its inaugural tournament in 2023 involving the 16 DStv Premiership teams. The Carling Eleven that will take place on December 16th annually will consist of players of other 15 teams with 23 member squad voted for by the fans.

2. Format
The winner of the Carling Knockout Cup will play the players of the other 15 teams that did not win the cup. It will be a six-plus five format, with five Diski Challenge players and six from the PSL.

3. Duration
This specific partnership is a three-year contract with a potential for another three years. The prize money is believed to be a substantial amount, and it will be revealed in due course.

4. The Carling Black Label Cup
Both the PSL and the SAB further kept everyone in suspense yet again after choosing not to comment about what will happen to the traditional Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates tournament. However, something big is brewing, and an announcement will be made public soon.
