Spears hit back at BCM Stars

Spear of the Nation has hit back at BCM Stars who accused their fans of “hurling missiles at innocent football spectators” during their abandoned Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League playoff tie this past Sunday at Issac Wolfson Stadium.

The showpiece was called off after only 10 minutes played in the second stanza, with the scoreline still 1-0 in favour of Spears.

However, Spears has come to their defence releasing a statement expressing their side of the story.

“We are very disappointed, and we are against the behaviour displayed by BCM supporters, management and players at their home ground,” read the club’s statement.

“BCM tried to stop us from checking the field before warm-up, their caretaker suggested that only five people can check the pitch.

“During our team meeting in our change room, their players kicked our door repeatedly and played loud music. SA Spear of the Nation players and technical team ignored the unwanted behaviour in football and continued with the business of the day.

“Just a few minutes from the second half, Sabelo Xolo was involved in a challenge with BCM number 9 who then retaliated but Xolo was sent off and our goalkeeper coach Chansa was also sent off for seeking explanation as to why Xolo is sent off. BCM Stars fans started throwing bottles at our goalkeeper coach on his way out to the dressing room and to our fans.

“As SA Spear of the Nation, we are against what happened. We apologise to those who sustained injuries during the unaccepted behaviour by BCM supporters.

“We also don’t know why BCM walked out of the field if the officials decided to reverse their decision and also send off their number 9 for retaliation.

“We promise to provide BCM Stars players, supporters and management security and ambulance because the fair game is a must during our home game.”

As things stand, Safa is expected to give a ruling regarding this matter.
