Agent weighs in on Itumeleng Khune’s future at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune’s agent Thato Matuka has commented on the future of the goalkeeper at Naturena.

Khune’s contract at Chiefs is coming to an end at the end of June next year.

When the new year starts, Khune will be allowed to put pen to paper on a pre-contract agreement with any team he’d like to join at the end of this campaign.

Matuka says they haven’t begun any discussions of a possible extension of the contract with the Glamour Boys.

AGENT ON ITUMELENG KHUNE’S FUTURE AT CHIEFS

“It is still premature for the talks [to begin],” Matuka told FARPost.

“When the season started, the objective was to get his fitness to the highest level which we achieved.

“The next step was to compete for his number one position which he attained.

“Unfortunately, he got injured and during the recess, we were busy with the recovery process and also thriving to attain the same fitness level that he had.

“So, the priorities, for now, are to claim back the number one jersey,” added the agent.

Khune made a return to action earlier this season after he hadn’t laced up his boots for over 12 months.

However, his comeback to life once again suffered a setback as he got injured before the enforced FIFA World Cup break.

Matuka has confirmed that the 35-year-old has recovered from injury and is back in training at Chiefs.

KHUNE BACK FROM INJURY

“As far I know, he is fine, he is training and chasing his full fitness and we’re hoping that he gets the number one spot in their next game,” revealed Matuka.

Khune has amassed seven appearances across all competitions this season and managed only one clean sheet.
