Agitated Riveiro reacts to Pirates loss
Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro says the Buccaneers were not good enough to compete with Sekhukhune United following their 2-0 defeat in the DStv Premiership clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Spaniard mentor claimed that his side did not play their best game on the day due to “different reasons.”
The visitors did not deserve anything more than a third league defeat of the season given their poor decisions in the final third.
Things got worse for the visitors when Thabiso Monyane received his second yellow card in the 58th minute of the showdown which saw Bucs being reduced to 10 men.
However, one can say that the presence of the 11-year-old coach Arehone Makhari at the Stadium in support of Babina Noko showed Pirates flames.
Makhari was invited by Sekhukhune to attend their game against the Soweto giants where he had the chance to address the players.
The young coach got a special visit from Sekhukhune on Monday following FARPost‘s article which got the attention of many football lovers.
There was no room for error from Kaitano Tembo’s side as they needed the maximum points more than the Happy People to move up on the table from the bottom.
Goals from Elias Mokwana and Vusimuzi Mncube sealed the much-needed win for the Limpopo-based outfit.
RIVEIRO’S REACTION…
“We didn’t play the game that we wanted for different reasons,” Riveiro told journalists in Polokwane.
“We had the best scoring chances than the opponent.
“I think we changed just after half-time and the situation started to be under control but still we were not close to our best.
“After the red card we had to modify our distribution on the filed as we played with two wingers, but luck was never on our side.”
As things stand, the Sea Robbers dropped to fourth place on the log standings with 14 points from nine outings.
Whereas Sekhukhune climbed up the table to the 11th position with 10 points from the same number of games played by their counterparts.
Elsewhere, Stellenbosch FC crashed Maritzburg United 3-0 at home, putting John Maduka’s job on the line.
At Princess Magogo Stadium, Golden Arrows came back from behind to salvage a point after a 1-all draw with Cape Town City.
