AmaZulu president throws weight behind coach Truter

AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu has thrown his weight behind coach Brandon Truter, amid questions over his performance of late.

Zungu insisted that they have had a better start to this season compared to the last two campaigns.

AmaZulu got off to a flying start this season, amassing 10 points from the opening four games.

However, they only managed to pick a point from the last four DStv Premiership games. Nonetheless, Zungu told FARPost he believes they are still on the right track to achieving their season’s target.

BETTER START

“My point is that we have 11 points in the first quarter. When you compare to the last two seasons, we’ve had a better start [this time],” he said in a telephone interview.

“Two seasons ago, we had six points from seven games and last season, we had nine points from seven games.”

The AmaZulu supremo added: “This time, by the time we went to the fifth game, we already had 11 points. We’ve had a good start.”

Zungu, therefore, called for proper perspective when scrutinising Truter’s performance.

“Things have got to be viewed in the proper context; we are an improving team in terms of our start to the season,” he told FARPost.

Truter, whose side is currently sixth on the DStv Premiership standings, guided the Durban-based outfit to the MTN8 Cup semifinal.

Usuthu clash with Kaizer Chiefs over two legs, and Zungu is convinced they have assembled a formidable side to challenge for honours.

READY FOR CHIEFS

“We’re in the semi-finals of the MTN8 Cup. Any team would be scared of facing AmaZulu; we are playing Chiefs at FNB Stadium,” he said.

“I’m happy and confident in my boys. I’m happy about Brandon Truter; all I can say is hardy for the losses. I’d be foolish not to support them (coaching panel) for the good job done,” he said.

Truter, who took over from Benni McCarthy towards the end of last season, has made it clear he wants to win trophies with AmaZulu.

Usuthu handed Truter a coaching lifeline last season, hiring him after he had parted ways with Swallows.
