AmaZulu supremo aiming to end 30-year trophy drought
Following AmaZulu’s busy campaign in the transfer market, signing eight players after offloading 15, the club’s president claims failure to at least lift a single trophy in the upcoming season will be an injustice.
The Durban outfit has already acquired the services of Gabadinho Mhango, Dumisani Zuma, Augustine Kwem, Veluyeke Zulu, Thendo Kutumela, Riaan Hanamub, Ethan Brooks and Larry Bwalya.
Usuthu are on a rebuilding phase to end a 30-year trophy drought as they last won the Coca-Cola Cup in 1992, now known as the Telkom Knockout.
“The coach and his assistant have the responsibility to make this team gel and a responsibility to make sure this team lifts at least one trophy this coming season. It’s been a long wait for AmaZulu, the last time we lifted a cup of significance was in 1992, more than 30 years ago,” Zungu told the club’s media.
“It’s injustice for a team like AmaZulu not to lift a cup in three decades. It has got to come to an end, and I believe this season is that season where it comes to an end.”
Zungu also stated that finishing in the top three is one of the club’s objectives for the season.”
“If we don’t regain our rightful place in the top portal of the DStv Premiership and represent South Africa in one of the CAF tournaments, Champions League or Confederations Cup, I think it would have been injustice,” he concluded.
