AmaZulu supremo Sandile Zungu explains why they failed to sign Pule Mmodi

AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu has explained why they failed to sign Pule Mmodi.

The Golden Arrows talisman is in the last six months of his contract with the Durban side.

He wanted to leave the KZN outfit, but the club could not agree with any potential suitors. However, with his contract expiring in June 2023, the Bafana Bafana fringe player is free to pen a pre-contract with any club of his choice.

WHY PULE MMODI TO AMAZULU COULDN’T HAPPEN

One of the clubs that has been tracking him – AmaZulu – have since explained why a deal could not happen.

“He is an interesting player that we have expressed interest in previously, but in our discussions, we couldn’t find each other in terms of the club’s expectations and what we could afford. That was the fact before the beginning of last season. So we’ll see,” Zungu told FARPost.

Zungu added that they had yet to speak to the handlers of the 29-year-old attacker in the current transfer window.

Mmodi has had a decent 2022/23 DStv Premiership season with Arrows. He has scored four goals and provided an assist in 14 appearances.

Mmodi has since been linked to a move to Orlando Pirates, and it likely may happen.

Pirates and Arrows recently completed a loan deal involving Ntsako Makhubela.

Makhubela has struggled to get game time at the Soweto giants and has since returned to his former club.

WHAT VUSUMUZI VILAKAZI SAID

Meanwhile, Arrows coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi recently said the club would sell Mmodi if any clubs were interested.

Vilakazi said the talented midfielder was available immediately.

“Pule can leave the club at any time if he has an available offer because the aim is not to keep him,” Vilakazi said recently.

“Maybe I have to clarify that if there is an opportunity for the club to make money, Pule will be sold to any other team that wants to buy him.

“But as long as he’s still with us, he’s our player. There’s nothing we can do. We’ll work with him because he’s prepared to work with us right now.”
