Arthur Zwane: ‘Anything can still happen’

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane reckons that “anything can still happen” in the race for CAF Champions League qualification despite their 1-1 draw with Marumo Gallants in a DStv Premiership clash on Saturday night.

Zwane maintains that there’s still a lot to play for as there will not be an easy game for anyone from now on going forward.

He insists that many teams are fighting to survive the relegation zone, whereas others are battling to finish in the top eight.

Currently, Amakhosi are placed fourth on the log standings with 41 points, just two points behind second-placed arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.

The Soweto giants are now left with five games to play, and Zwane is hopeful that they will be able to grab the second spot.

‘ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN’

“Look, there are still five more games to play. There’s still more to play for and anything can happen.

“You know, there’s a lot of teams that are fighting to avoid relegation and teams that want to be in the top   eight. So, there are no easy games for everyone now,” Zwane told the media.

“We could have grabbed maximum points on this one [against Marumo Gallants] but it’s one of those games.

“Now, we just have to go back and prepare ourselves for the next one which will be after the cup game [Nedbank Cup]. So, we won’t give up but this is football. Sometimes you find yourself in situations like this.”

The 49-year-old mentor continued: “It’s all up to us now. We still have to play SuperSport United [who are also in contestation for a second place].

“As I said, this is a game of football and we can do better. It’s going to be more like testing our character from now on going forward.”

Chiefs will now shift their focus to the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals where they will face Royal AM away from home on Sunday, 16 April 2023.
