Kannemayer weighs in on why Arthur Zwane is the right man for Chiefs

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender David Kannemayer has shared why he believes Arthur Zwane is the right man for the Amakhosi job.

Zwane, a former Amakhosi star, was appointed head coach ahead of the current 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.

Zwane’s tenure didn’t start well. The team has been failing to grind results, and they have been inconsistent in their performances, blowing hot and cold.

ARTHUR ZWANE STILL LEARNING

Kannemayer, however, believes Zwane is the right coach for the club, who is still learning. Therefore, he insists Zwane deserves a chance, and the club faithful should be patient with him.

“I think it’s Arthur’s [Zwane] first job as a head coach at senior team level. I think he’s doing ok. People [Kaizer Chiefs fans] just need to be patient and give him a fair chance,” Kannemayer told FARPost.

“There will always be people who criticise coaches, and that is normal. With Arthur being young and energetic first time as a head coach, people need to understand that he is also finding his feet because it’s his first job with a senior team.

“He was a great player. He did well for the club and won many trophies. Given a chance, he will also do well as a coach and bring joy to the club. After a few seasons, we’ll be talking a different story.”

Kannemayer further revealed that Zwane will always be under pressure at the club. Big clubs like Chiefs need results each match, and they are always chasing titles.

FANS WILL CRITICISE

“He [Arthur Zwane] will always be under pressure at the club, and pressure will always be there. People will always criticise. That’s the nature of the game,” Kannemayer added.

After 13 matches played in the 2022/23 DStv Premiership, the Soweto giants are fourth after accumulating 21 points. They have registered six victories, three draws and suffered four defeats.

They were knocked out of the MTN8 in the semi-finals by AmaZulu.
