Arthur Zwane explains what has prompted Chiefs’ inconsistent run

"What has been affecting us is injuries in terms of getting combinations right."

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has opened up on what has contributed to their recent hot and cold run.

‘10111’, as Zwane is affectionately known, was speaking after their win over Maritzburg United in the Nedbank Cup on Friday.

Amakhosi triumphed 2-0 to book a spot in the following stage.

Zwane has bemoaned injuries as his side has failed numerous times to come out with desired results, particularly, in the league.

He says chopping and changing the line-up has negatively affected their attempts to build certain combinations.

ARTHUR ZWANE ON WHAT HAS LED TO INCONSISTENCY OF KAIZER CHIEFS

“What has been affecting us is injuries in terms of getting combinations right,” Zwane told the media.

“Unfortunately, we are forced to chop and change the team. Today, we lost Mduduzi, last week we lost Caleb.

“Three weeks back, we lost two players, both right backs. A week before, we lost Ngcobo at training.

“It is obviously a worrying factor. It also affects the performance of individuals because when you think you’re getting the combinations right, then he’s losing that partner.

“You have to start looking for better options in terms of complementing each other because before you get it right, you have to make sure that the players understand each other.

“We’re always looking for that. And unfortunately, we haven’t been lucky when it comes to that.

“We’ve been unfortunate due to injuries as I’ve been saying. But we don’t have a choice, we gonna have to soldier on and focus on the positives.”

Among the players injured at Chiefs are Khama Billiat, Reeve Frosler, Dillan Solomons and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

Meanwhile, Mduduzi Shabalala was forced off after getting a knock in a match against the Team of Choice. However, it’s still uncertain how serious his injury is.

The Glamour Boys are next in action against Lamontville Golden Arrows in the DStv Premiership on Sunday, 19 February at the FNB Stadium at 15:30.
