Arthur Zwane not pressured by Chiefs’ lack of goals

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane says he is not pressured by his team’s lack of scoring goals but admits it’s a concern that needs to be addressed soon as Amakhosi have been creating many scoring opportunities in their previous matches.

Chiefs have fired blanks in back-to-back DStv Premiership matches. Firstly, they lost 2-0 to Cape Town City, then were held to a goalless draw by AmaZulu on Saturday.

In his defence, Zwane says the team is still new, and they are working hard on finding the best combinations that will generate good results for the Naturena outfit.

Despite Chiefs settling for a draw, the result they never wanted, Zwane was satisfied with the performance and commended his charges for their effort.

“We are a work in progress. When you try to get the combinations right, sometimes it is a case of trial and error. Good decision-making and understanding come with familiarity; the more we play and train together, we’ll continue to get better,” Zwane told the club’s media department.

“We created more scoring chances; unfortunately, we didn’t turn them into goals, but the mood is very positive in the camp.

“Lack of goals is a concern, especially when you are playing at home. It would be different to say we didn’t create enough opportunities.”

“We did enough in my opinion to get at least two goals and it was unfortunate that we couldn’t bury them. But that gives us coaches some encouragement to work harder on the things that will make the difference, like finishing and final third entry – getting the chemistry right.”

Up next for 12th placed Chiefs in the DStv Premiership is a trip to North West. They are on the road to face Marumo Gallants on Sunday aiming to get back to winning ways. Kickoff on Sunday is at 3pm.
