Cape Town City come from a goal down to stun Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates’ poor league run continued following a 2-1 defeat by Cape Town City at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening.

Pirates came into the match winless in two games following defeats by Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.

CITY STUN ORLANDO PIRATES

The Buccaneers opened the scoring through Deon Hotto in the 20th minute, but the hosts found an equaliser by Juan Zapata 19 minutes later to take the score to 1-1 at the halftime break.

Darwin Gonzalez scored the winner in the 74th minute to give the Citizens their fifth win of the season. The win also saw City leapfrog Pirates to sixth position with 19 points. Pirates dropped to seventh position.

In the other DStv Premiership results on Saturday, Golden Arrows stunned high-flying SuperSport United with a 2-1 win at Princess Magogo Stadium.

Nduduzo Sibiya and Knox Mutizwa scored the two goals for Arrows, while Thabang Sibanyoni scored only for Matsatsantsa.

The results do not change the log position for SuperSport as they remain second on the DStv Premiership log, 10 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Arrows, on the other hand, have jumped to fifth position after 15 matches.

Orlando Pirates will host Golden Arrows in their next match on Saturday, 14 January. City will be away to Chippa United on the same date.

MARUMO GALLANTS SUFFER SETBACK

Meanwhile, troubles continue for strugglers Marumo Gallants. They suffered a 1-0 home defeat by Maritzburg at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Rustenburg.

Maritzburg scored the only goal of the match via an own goal by defender Tshepo Gumede in the 79th minute.

The result means Gallants are now in the basement of the DStv Premiership after 15 matches. They are currently on 13 points, one below the Team of Choice, who have now jumped to second from the bottom.
