Chiefs beat Swallows in Soweto Derby thriller

Kaizer Chiefs narrowly edged Swallows 2-1 in a thrilling Soweto Derby at Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday evening in Soweto.

The start in the Soweto Derby was a lively one with Amakhosi managing penetrative runs down the flanks and dominating the midfield, while Swallows, forced to settle for a defensive approach lookod to counter-attack from the deep.

The first real scoring chance in the match emerged in the 24th minute when Chiefs’midfielder Yusuf Maart’s shot just went over the bar via a deflection.

Chiefs kept on probing and were rewarded in the 35rd minute through Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, who’s header beat Swallows goalie Sanele Tshabalala, thanks to a pass by the in-form Kgaogelo Sekgota.

It was Bimenyimana’ third goal of the season

With the Amakhosi fans roaring with pride and arrived of the club’s style of play, star player Keagan Dolly made it 2-0 on the stroke of halftime.

By the time the first half ended Swallows had failed to test Itumeleng Khune but the hosts did fire a few shots at goal, off target.

Chiefs started the second stanza the same way they started the first half as Zitha Kwinika came close to double the lead in the 52rd minute but his effort went over the crossbar from close range.

Two minutes later Lindokuhle Mtshali nearly pulled one back Swallows.

It was end to end stuff as Bimenyimana missed a golden opportunity to net a brace in the 56th minutes after being played through by Dolly.

The hosts finally scored in the 68th minute through Waseem Isaacs.

Isaacs’ strike have the Dube Birds confidence as they applied pressure to the Chiefs pressure with the game heating up.

In the 70th minute Bimenyimana once again failed to convert as his header went wide.

The Glamour Boys were saved by the crossbar a few minutes later.

Isaacs has a chance to be the hero in the 75th minute but his attempt went inches wide.

Chiefs held on to seal their fourth win of the DStv Premiership season.
