Chiefs coach highlights importance of keeping Samkelo Zwane grounded
Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has highlighted the importance of keeping rising star Samkelo Zwane grounded to ensure the midfielder succeeds at the club.
Arthur Zwane admits the Chiefs jersey is very heavy, with many players in the past buckling under pressure to perform and live up to expectations.
And although it might still be early days, many have tipped Samkelo Zwane to fill in the gap left by Njabulo Blom, who recently parted ways with Chiefs to join Major League Soccer club, St. Louis City.
Samkelo Zwane, the son of former Orlando Pirates midfielder Eugene Zwane, impressed in his first start for Chiefs when they beat Golden Arrows 2-0 in a DStv Premiership clash in Durban last Saturday.
Zwane, who looks destined for great things has shown what he is capable of in the two league games he has played so far and the 20-year-old bossed the midfield with Yusuf Maart in the Arrows victory.
ARTHUR ZWANE PLEASED WITH SAMKELO ZWANE
Amakhosi coach Zwane hailed the youngster’s performance while encouraging him to stay focused.
“We are very happy for Njabulo Blom, as a club, he has done his part and he is growing now as an individual,” said Chiefs coach Zwane.
“And coming to the young Zwane, there is competition for places at the club, remember we have Phathutshedzo Nange, Cole Alexander, and we gave the young man the opportunity, and he grabbed it with both hands, and we are happy for him.
“And we will make sure that we keep him grounded and focused, and so far, so good. The boy is doing well for himself,” added Zwane.
The Soweto giants will take on Sekhukhune United in their next league game on Saturday at FNB Stadium, and Samkelo Zwane is undoubtedly one of the players in line to start.
Chiefs will be looking to register their second win on the bounce and move up the log standings as they are currently in fourth place after 12 games with 24 points, 10 adrift of leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
