Chippa set record straight over Fifa transfer ban

Chippa United have set the record straight regarding the news of the club being banned from signing and registering players by Fifa following their failure to pay Augustine Kwem’s signing-on fee.

Kwem’s agent, Johhny Ogbah, had revealed that the Chilli Boys have been banned by the world football governing body in his interview on SA FM on Wednesday.

It was reported that Chippa had failed to pay an outstanding amount of R200 000 of the now TS Galaxy’s striker signing-on fee.

The Gqeberha-based outfit has since refuted the claims, citing that the ban only refers to the payment of certain amounts to Kwem, following which the club is free to continue its normal activities.

“We reassure all concerned that payment have been made in terms of an agreement on payment and the club was busy with tax calculations, as the amount is related to an employment agreement,” read the club’s statement.

“We condemn the agent of Kwem, who dearly had a hand in leaking the information, whereas the club had done all in its power to resolve the matters amicable.

“In summary, we reassure our supporters and fans that the club will participate in normal transfer activity and we are 100% focused on collecting maximum points in our next game against Swallows FC to stay clear of relegation zone.”
