Chippa United in search of first win at NMB Stadium in 443 days

DStv Premiership side Chippa United will be eyeing a win at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday evening for the first time in 443 days when they host reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

All home matches that the Gqeberha outfit emerged victorious in the past two years were won at Sisa Dukashe Stadium.

The last time the Chilli Boys won a home match at the iconic venue was back on 19 June 2021. They defeated Richards Bay FC 2-1 in the PSL Promotional/Relegation playoffs.

Heading into their match against Masandawana on Wednesday, Chippa are under pressure of getting back to winning ways. They are winless in three matches after recording one draw and suffering two defeats.

Previous coaches have tried to break the jinx, however failed. New coach Dine Klate in however confident he will win matches at NMB. He’s aim is to make the venue a slaughterhouse and a fortress, making it difficult for their opponents to win.

ON KLATE NMB STADIUM!!!

“We have to make our home a fortress. We have to turn the stadium into a difficult place for teams to get points. We can’t give points away when we are playing at home. I think we need to instil that philosophy and mentality,” said Klate.

“Each time we have a home game, the aim must be to get three points. Out of the 15 [home] matches, we should be winning more games than losing and drawing.”

“We must take full advantage. Hopefully, we can dominate football matches at home and get three points, get more victories at home.”

Odds are against Chippa. In the past three seasons when the two sides met in the league Chippa failed to defeat Masandawana. They drew two and lost four matches, then lost in the Telkom Knockout quarter final.

Kickoff at NMB is at 19:30.
