Cuthbert Malajila picks Peter Ndlovu as Sundowns’ unsung hero

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Cuthbert Malajila says Peter Ndlovu is the club’s unsung hero as the Tshwane giants continue to dominate the DStv Premiership

While most of the attention has been waxed on the coaches, Malajila reckons the Zimbabwean legend has been a vital cog in helping new players settle.

Ndlovu is part of Rulani Mokwena’s technical team where he is the team manager, a post he got in July 2013 then under Pitso Mosimane.

The Zimbabwean all-time goal scorer is one of the longest serving employees at the Pretoria-based club.

WHY MALAJILA THINKS PETER NDLOVU IS AN UNSUNG HERO

And as Mamelodi Sundowns continue with their unstoppable exploits, Malajila opines that Ndlovu’s work has rather been overshadowed.

“I was there. I learnt alot. He [Peter Ndlovu] was and is always there to extend a warm helping hand, especially to new players,” Malajila told FARPost.

“He helped a number of players settle in. It’s not a secret that there is intense competition at the club. One has to fight hard to be in the team.

“Peter’s work speaks for itself. Ask any current or former Sundowns player. He has been so smooth and he has remained grounded.

“He is very good at what he does. I think he is one of the unsung heros in the team at the moment.

“The team is moving well and it’s a good reflection of the work that is being put it by everyone,”

Ndlovu spent four years in Mamelodi Sundowns’ books as a player upon his return from England where he had a lengthy spell.

He played for Coventry City, Birmingham City and Sheffield United in England before signing for Mamelodi Sundowns in 2004.

At Chloorkop he played over 80 games and scored 20 goals. For Zimbabwe he attained 100 caps and remains the all-time goals scorer with 38 goals to his name.

Over the years, he has enjoyed tremendous success with Mamelodi Sundowns winning consecutive DStv Premiership titles and other domestic accolades.
