Daniels urges Maritzburg fans to pack Harry Gwala Stadium

Maritzburg United defender Clayton Daniels is hoping for two things when The Team of Choice host Swallows in Tuesday’s (20:00) vital DStv Premiership relegation battle at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

The experienced campaigner, Daniels, is striving to help Maritzburg seal their sixth win of the season and is praying that the fans – Blue Army turn out in their numbers to encourage the team to move further away from the relegation zone.

Before the Covid-10 pandemic, Maritzburg enjoyed a good stint at the Harry Gwala Stadium, which the supporters packed to the rafters every weekend to back the KwaZulu-Natal outfit.

And it will be the first time in more than two years that fans can attend a Maritzburg match at the stadium. “It is very important for us and our fans to come back now. We need them,” said Daniels.

“I believe they can bring the extra energy that we need. Hopefully, we can make them proud of us and take maximum points at the end of the day.”

A victory for Maritzburg in 12th place could see them move seven points clear of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Swallows, who are 15th on the log standings, desperately need a win.

“Our preparations have gone well so far; we have good energy and spirit. We know it will be a difficult game, it is a team that is also fighting relegation, so it is a six-pointer for us. We will do everything to get maximum points,” added Daniels.

“I don’t think they will change a lot of the personnel in their team. They may try to play three at the back with wingbacks.”
