DStv Premiership deadline day: Done deals, potential moves from the January transfer window

With the January transfer window set to close on 31 January, 2023, FARPost keeps track of the latest deals and potential moves.

POTENTIAL MOVES

Ayanda Patosi

Ayanda Patosi is back in the country and has been linked with three DStv Premiership teams. Cape Town City and Stellenbosch FC have shown interest in the 30-year-old.

He is a free agent after parting ways with Iran side Foolad recently. With his wealth of experience, a lot of local clubs would be keen on his signature.

Lesedi Kapinga

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder-cum-striker Lesedi Kapinga has requested a transfer, according to SABC Sport.

Kapinga has not enjoyed playing time at Sundowns and is looking for a club where he can get game time.

The former Black Leopards star’s contract with the Tshwane giants runs out at the end of the season, although there is an option for an extension by a further two years.

Makgalwa, Mkhuma & Phewa

Motsepe Foundation Championship side All Stars are linked with the Sundowns duo of Keletso Makgalwa and Promise Mkhuma. Meanwhile, Luvuyo Phewa is the third Downs player who’s reportedly going to be sent out on loan too.

Makgalwa spent the first half of the season at TS Galaxy while Mkhuma was at Swallows, who could not sign him because of the FIFA transfer ban. The two now look set to play their football in the second tier for the rest of the season.

Phewa also had to return to Chloorkop in July after his loan spell at AmaTuks came to an end last season. However, he was not registered for this campaign and now the young attacking midfielder looks set to find another club where’ll get to play.

DEADLINE DAY DONE DEALS

Daniel Akpeyi

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi finally put pen to paper after over seven months on the sidelines.

The Nigerian goalie joins Swallows FC on a five-month deal with an option of two years. His move comes after Swallows’ FIFA transfer ban was lifted on Friday.

“He signed a five-month contract, and should he do well, the agreement will be extended by another two years. He’s quite relieved because since leaving Kaizer Chiefs, he has tried his luck with Sekhukhune United, and there were links with Chippa United,” a source close to the player told FARPost.

Zakhele Lepasa

Orlando Pirates announced Zakhele Lepasa’s loan move to SuperSport United. “Orlando Pirates can confirm that it has reached an agreement with SuperSport United for the services of Zakhele Lepasa, who will join Matsatsantsa on loan for the rest of the season.

Lepasa has found the going tough at the Buccaneers this season, with the arrival of Cameroonian forward Souaibou Marou from Coton Sport meaning his playing time may be limited.

Makhehleni Makhaula

AmaZulu have announced Makhehleni Makhaula’s move to Orlando Pirates with immediate effect. FARPost recently reported that the player had signed a pre-contract to link up with the Buccaneers when his contract ends in June.

However, the two clubs have since agreed on a deal that sees the 33-year-old move to Mayfair on deadline day.

Mpho Makola

The midfielder Mpho Makola has parted ways with Cape Town City after the club handed him a release letter on Monday, FARPost has learnt.

The former Orlando Pirates man collected over 90 appearances and scored three goals during his stay at City.

Bongani Sam

Swallows FC have acquired the services of the left-back Bongani Sam from their Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates.

The former Bloemfontein Celtic defender joins the Birds on a six-month loan deal. He’s the second player to be loaned out by the Buccaneers this transfer window after Zakhele Lepasa joined SuperSport United for the remainder of this season.
