Middendorp predicts unstoppable Sundowns will open 20 point-gap

Newly appointed Swallows head coach Ernest Middendorp has made a big admission about the DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns, claiming that the Tshwane giants will easily defend their title.

Sundowns continued their good vein of form with a 2-0 victory against Swallows in a league encounter at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday night.

Neo Maema and Themba Zwane were both on the score sheet for Sundowns.

Before claiming maximum points against Swallows, Sundowns beat Orlando Pirates at Loftus Versfeld Stadium last Friday.

Middendorp says Sundowns will be crowned champions with at least 20 points clear at the summit of the log.

“They [Sundowns] have phenomenal resources,” Middendorp told the media. “Let’s not make jokes about it; it’s a very clear opinion at the end of the season.

“Sundowns will be 20 points clear of each and everybody. It’s a reality in terms of the resources, the players they have and the fitness cohesion,” Middendorp added.

Sundowns is currently the runaway leaders in the Premiership with seven points clear of second-placed SuperSport United.

The Brazilians have won 11 games, drawing one while losing twice after 14 games played, and they collected 34 points.

Meanwhile, the former Kaizer Chiefs mentor has identified what Swallows need to work on going forward.

“We are trying to put a certain concept in. Of course, we have a game on Friday, and we have to bring in fresh players,” added Middendorp.

“Let’s see how we can do it. We’ll mix it a little bit around because [Kagiso] Malinga is not 100% fit.

“Mwape Musonda also, I have to play in this direction and give players 45 minutes each to keep some level of freshness in the team.

The Dobsonville-based side will be looking to claim all three points and move out of the relegation zone.

They face Chippa United at Dobsonville stadium on Friday, the 6th of January. Kickoff is scheduled for 19:30.
