Ex-Baroka coach lands job at PSL side
FARPost can exclusively reveal that a former Baroka senior coach has landed a job at a PSL side.
Baroka are now participating in the Motsepe Foundation Championship following their relegation from the top-flight league at the end of last season.
Bakgaga had three coaches at the helm in Matsemela Thoka, Kgoloko Thobejane and Vincent Kobola.
Sources have told this publication that Thoka has resurfaced at Baroka’s rivals Marumo Gallants.
Gallants are said to have identified Thoka for the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) position.
“He started working last week. They are busy assembling a new squad ahead of the new season,” said the informant.
Thoka will take over from Mpho Maleka, who has reportedly left the club. Maleka was tasked with taking charge of the DDC side after the departure of David ‘DVD’ Mathebula.
Thoka guided Baroka to a 10th finish in the DStv Premiership during the 2020/21 season. But a poor start the following season saw him being relinquished from the head coach position to the DDC coaching role at the club.
He was replaced by Kgoloko Thobejane, who unfortunately also got fired at a later stage.
The longest serving member of the Baroka technical team was recently part of the historic FARPost Cup first coaching seminar, which took place in Polokwane.
He also took charge of the Lepelle-Nkumpi LFA, which participated in the inaugural FARPost Cup Capricorn Region edition in Indermark Limpopo.
The Marumo DDC team finished bottom of the Under/23 16-team log standings. Out of the 30 matches played, they won four, drew six and lost 20 matches.
They also conceded the most number of goals, 72 and scored the least number of goals, 24.
The Premier Soccer League is yet to release the schedule for the 2022/23 DDC season.
