Ex-PSL star shares his passion for football development

Former Dynamos, Bloemfontein Celtic and AmaZulu player Soul “Chippa” Mmethi says the fact that he remains the only player from his Township to play professional football is a concern to him.

This is why Mmethi started the Soul Mmethi Soccer Academy for both girls and boys aged 4 to 18.

The 43-year-old retired from football 10 years ago. He is now the Chairman of the Moses Kotane local Football Association and also runs his health and safety business in North West.

FARPost paid a visit to the former winger at his home Township of Mogwase just outside Rustenburg on Friday.

“I saw the need to start this (academy) because I was born and grew up here and since my professional days there has never been one player who came out of this area who became a professional footballer,” said Mmethi.

“Its been over 10 years now since I have retired so I thought for me its best and for the kids around my township so that I can give them what I leant from football and see where it will take them.”
