Fadlu Davids set to meet Maritzburg players ahead of his appointment

Former Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids is set to meet Maritzburg United players on Monday ahead of his appointment as the club’s new head coach. The KZN outfit have been without a coach after the sacking of John Maduka two weeks back.

Maduka’s sacking was mainly due to a lack of results since the beginning of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season despite the club investing so much in bringing in new players.

MARITZBURG STRUGGLING TO GRIND RESULTS

The club has been struggling to grind results. After 13 matches played so far, The Team of Choice finds themselves sitting rock bottom on the log standings with 11 points. Maritzburg have only registered two victories, five draws and suffered six defeats.

Maritzburg are at par with another struggling side Sekhukhune United who also sacked coach Kaitano Tembo and replaced him with Brandon Truter.

FARPost has it on good authority that Fadlu Davids is set to be a new man in charge. He will be making a return to the club he left three years ago. Davids made headlines last week with many rumours and speculations linking him to a return to the club.

David’s appointment works in favour of the club as teams are heading into a break ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup that will be hosted in Qatar in a few days’ time. Maritzburg resume training on Tuesday. This will help the players to bond with the new coach and get ready when the league resumes on New Year’s Eve.

FADLU DAVIDS’ RUSSIA STINT WAS SHORT-LIVED

After parting ways with Maritzburg, Davids was appointed Orlando Pirates co-coach working with Mandla Ncikazi. He spent two years with the Soweto giants last season. He came close to winning the CAF Confederation Cup, however, lost in the final against Morocco outfit RS Berkane.

After his stint with Pirates, he joined Josef Zinnbuer at Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow. However, his stay was short-lived as Zinnbauer, and his coaching staff were sacked two weeks after Davids’ arrival. This was mainly due to a lack of results also.
