Former Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele joins Royal AM

Former Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele has made a move to KwaZulu-Natal outfit Royal AM, it was announced on Friday.

Happy Jele joins the DStv Premiership side, Royal AM as a free agent following his exit from Pirates at the start of the 2022/23 season.

“We are excited to have you around, Welcome aboard and to your new home Happy Jele,” said the club in a brief statement.

The rumours about Jele and Royal AM emerged after he left the Buccaneers, however, the defender was unattached for six months.

Now, he joins Thwihli Thwahla following the unveiling of coach John Maduka who returned to the club for his second spell.

Jele parted company with the Soweto giants after 16 years of service at the club. This was after he reportedly declined a non-playing role that he was offered by the club.

He made more than 400 appearances in black and white colours prior to his exit.

Now, the 36-year-old centre-back will be fighting for a jersey with the likes of Ricardo Nascimento, Mlungisi Sikhakhane, Thato Lingwati, and Lesego Manganyi.

Jele, who comes with vast experience, will be expected to solidify AM’s backline that has conceded 26 goals in the league so far.

Royal AM are next in action against Lamontville Golden Arrows in a league match that will take place at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday, 04 February 2022. The kick-off is set for 15:30.

Meanwhile, Chippa United recently announced the signing of Tshepo Matete who’s widely known as “Skhwama samatete” in football circles.

Matete joined the Eastern Cape-based outfit after his recent spell with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila.

Swallows also announced the signing of the Tanzania international David Uromi on a two-year deal with an option to extend.

The 23-year-old joined the Dube Birds on a free transfer after his exit from Al Hilal.
