Former Pirates striker’s words of wisdom for Evidence Makgopa

Former Orlando Pirates striker Andries Sebola has offered advice to Evidence Makgopa, who has struggled with game time and injuries at the Soweto giants.

Makgopa joined Pirates from Baroka at the beginning of the current DStv Premiership season.

But the Bafana Bafana striker is yet to play in an official match for Pirates after picking up an injury earlier in the season.

The arrival of players such as Kermit Erasmus and Ndumiso Mabena will not make life easy for the 22-year-old.

However, Sebola has backed the former Baroka marksman to make an impact, only if he works harder.

“I still believe that they have to give him a chance to play,” said Sebola.

“Coming from an injury is not going to be easy for him to go straight to the starting line-up.

“But they have to give him a chance until at least the end of the season because you can not just loan him out in January because the boy was injured when he joined Pirates,” added the man known as ‘Super Sub’.

“So the only thing is that they have to give him a chance. But also he has to work, when he gets the opportunity to play he must make sure that he impresses so that he can be in the starting berth at the club.”

EVIDENCE MAKGOPA HAS WHAT IT TAKES

“He still has what it takes, he is hungry because I am sure he has realised that those that are playing have delivered. Ndumiso Mabena has also joined now so he will be under pressure. So given an opportunity, he must deliver.”

Makgopa suffered an ankle injury while at training a few weeks after joining the Buccaneers. He joined Pirates in a much-publicised move after three impressive seasons at Baroka.

Makgopa scored 16 goals in all competitions and became Baroks’s top goal scorer in the DStv Premiership.
