Gavin Hunt bemoans SuperSport United lack of goals

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has bemoaned his team’s failure to score goals as they lost 2-0 to in-form TS Galaxy on Sunday afternoon in the last game of DStv Premiership matchweek three.

The Tshwane outfit had many shots during the game. However, they failed to convert the chances they were creating.

In the end, the Rockets showed them how it’s done, scoring two times to claim the three points, thanks to Given Msimango and Ebrahim Seedat’s goals, scoring in each half.

“There is no excuse. You got to score, we could have turned halftime two nil, three nil up, to be fair, but we didn’t. They scored two goals from two restarts from a throw-in and a corner kick which is disappointing because we pride ourselves,” said Hunt.

“I think we had the best chances in the game, but we didn’t score. They had the ball, they played well, but the chances we had in front of goal we didn’t score.”

Hunt is hoping his strikers Thamsanqa Gabuza, and Bradley Grobler will start scoring goals when they are fully fit. The duo just recovered from injuries as they missed out on the preseason.

Last season Grobler and Gabuza scored eight goals combined in the league, one and seven, respectively.

“He [Bradley Grobler] hasn’t done any preseason, he didn’t train in the preseason, [Thamsanqa] Gabuza hasn’t had a preseason at all. It is what it is. You can see he’s a yard off, hasn’t trained, but its been a tough week up and down all over.”

The defeat on Sunday left the former Kaizer Chiefs mentor and his charges amongst the four teams [Maritzburg United, Golden Arrows and Cape Town City] still without a victory in the 2022/23 season.

Matsatsantsa will be hoping to get their first victory on Sunday when they host Soweto giants Orlando Pirates. They face a wounded Buccaneers who lost to Chippa on Sunday.
