George Maluleka speaks for the first time since his collapse

For the first time since his scary collapse, AmaZulu midfielder George Maluleka has released a message to the public.

George Maluleka collapsed on the field in AmaZulu’s 1-0 defeat in a DStv Premiership clash against Swallows on Saturday, 01 April.

The experienced midfielder was given medical attention on the pitch at the Moses Mabhida Stadium before an ambulance transported him to the sidelines.

It was not the first time this campaign that Maluleka has collapsed as he went to ground in the goalless draw against Sekhukhune United on 31 December.

Furthermore, the 34-year-old is not the first player to collapse during a match. Black Leopards attacker Tiklas Thutlwa collapsed two weeks ago during a Motsepe Foundation Championship clash against Casric Stars.

The former Kaizer Chiefs star has since made significant progress. He took to social media to speak about his state.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their concern, care and support during this time,” Maluleka wrote on Instagram.

“I’m stable and recovering well in the good care of my family. Words cannot describe my genuine gratitude for all the support and care I received both on and off the field.

“It has meant more to me than you will ever know and I look forward to being back on the field soon,” he concluded.

Maluleka joined AmaZulu at the start of the 2022/23 campaign on free transfer after he was released by Mamelodi Sundowns.

He has had an impressive start to to life at Usuthu. In 25 appearances in all competitions, Maluleka has contributed five assists.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu have been struggling to find a consistent run of form under the guidance of head coach Romain Folz.

The KZN side has won only six games and drawn 10 while losing eight times in 23 league games.

AmaZulu will be looking to return to winning ways and collect maximum points when they face Cape Town City at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday, 9th of April.
