George Maluleka warns AmaZulu not to take Dondol lightly

The mantra coming out of the AmaZulu camp this week has been that of not undermining minnows Dondol Stars, and midfielder George Maluleka reiterated that they must be careful of a potential banana skin.

Nedbank Cup is a cup of underdogs whereby teams from lower divisions rise to the occasion and stun big teams.

ABC Motsepe League side, Dondol has already caused an upset by eliminating a big team from the competition. They defeated SuperSport United 2-1 in the first round.

AmaZulu take on the less fancied Dondol in a Nedbank Cup last 16 clash on Wednesday, 08 March 2023.

HISTORY OF THE NEDBANK CUP

“We’re aware and know the story of the tournament; David vs Goliath. Dondol is not going to be an easy opponent. We’ve seen a couple of clips and the SuperSport match,” said Maluleka.

“They’re not scared to play, and they have nothing to lose; I think it’s going to be an interesting one. If we apply ourselves and approach the game without undermining our opposition, we should be able to get through.

“The approach should be like any other game, not undermining anyone, just showing respect to the opposition. Also, showing them why we are in the top tier.”

CHIPPA UNITED VICTORY

Maluleka further believes winning their last match against Chippa United in the DStv Premiership was a confidence booster heading into this tricky encounter.

“It was very important [to win against Chippa United]. It’s been a while getting three points, so it was a very big confidence booster away from home,” Maluleke added.

Due to protests by university students at TUT earlier this week, the PSL confirmed that the match would be played at FNB Stadium instead of TUT Stadium.

Kickoff is at 7:30.
