How Arthur Zwane honed his leadership skills
SuperSport captain Onismor Bhasera has revealed how Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane honed his leadership skills during his days as a player.
The Zimbabwean international defender picks Arthur Zwane as one of the key leaders that spurred Amakhosi between 2000 and 2010.
Though he also credits Cyril Nzama and Tinashe Nengomasha, the 36-year-old elaborates that Arthur Zwane was a stand-out leader.
Bhasera and Zwane shared the same dressing room between 2007 and 2010 before the former moved to England’s Plymouth Argyle.
BHASERA ON ARTHUR ZWANE’S LEADERSHIP SKILLS
“That time, there were a lot of leaders in the team. We had the likes Cyril Nzana and Tinashe Nengomasha, but Zwane did well to motivate us,” Bhasera told FARPost.
“He was doing what senior players were doing in the team. That was reminding the young boys how important it is to keep focused. He was also giving guidance to them in every match.
Esau Buti Phiri, father to Lebogang Phiri, who plays for Paris FC in France, concurs with Bhasera’s sentiments.
Phiri senior said it was clear that Zwane was destined to be a coach because of the way he handled himself as a player.
“When Arthur Zwane was a player, he would not wait for the coach to come and address the players. He would shout at them and tell them they have to push. I guess he was always a leader,” Phiri told FARPost.
Phiri senior interacted with Zwane during his brief playing career that was cut short due to injury.
Zwane has undoubtedly restored the sense of believing again at Kaizer Chiefs, with the Soweto giants sitting in the fourth position after 13 games.
However, it remains to be seen if the former attacker manages to retain his position as head coach, having inked a three-year deal in June.
The 49-year-old had previously served as the head coach on an interim basis following the departure of Stuart Baxter seven matches before the 2021/22 season was concluded.
