How Arthur Zwane intends to handle Siyabonga Ngezana

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has revealed how he intends to help out-of-form defender Siyabonga Ngezana.

The defender’s costly mistakes against Mamelodi Sundowns have seen him become number one enermy of the Amakhosi faithful.

Each time he gets the ball Kaizer Chiefs fans will be chanting slogans in the stands, calling for his removal from the pitch.

However, Zwane believes it is just a phase that will pass as time goes on. He likens Ngezana’s situation to Njabulo Ngcobo who was faced with difficulties last season.

“This is football and football is meant to help players to grow. Football is a game of mistakes. The only way we can protect Siya [Ngezana] is giving him an opportunity to play. His performance will convince the supporters as times goes on,” Zwane told the media.

“Siya [Ngezana] is one of those defenders who can win 1v1 battles at the back with Zitha [Kwinika] and Mapholoba [Njabulo Ngcobo]who’s been out for sometime. At least now he’s doing well, given the opportunity to play.”

“We do have other players [at Kaizer Chiefs] who are doing well, but you look at the way we want to play. You got players that you want to win their 1v1 battles, some of the players that we have are very good , but not in 1v1 battles.”

The former Soweto giants winger stated how he is trying fix errors in his defence. In all the five DStv Premiership matches The Glamour Boys have played, they were the first team to concede.

“We looking for technical understanding in terms of the balance at the back when we defend. We’ll be changing, there will be games we’ll be playing with three then games we’ll be playing with two central defenders. It depends with the game approach,” Zwane added.

Following a 2-0 loss to Cape Town City on Wednesday evening, Kaizer Chiefs shift focus to MTN8.

They will face Stellenbosch FC on Sunday in a quarter final tie aiming to get back to winning ways. Kickoff at Danie Craven Stadium is at 3pm.
