How new DStv Premiership coaches have fared so far

Heading into the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season, many teams made changes to their technical staff and FARPost looks at how nine new coaches have fared after matchweek six.

The Royal AM co-coaches started their new adventure on a bright note. The KZN outfit won their first two matches defeating Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United 1-0 and 3-1 respectively. They then dropped points, losing 3-1 to Stellenbosch FC before another 1-0 loss to Orlando Pirates.

That was followed by a 2-2 draw with Marumo Gallants and a 1-0 win over Maritzburg in the KZN derby last week. It means they have won three, drawn once and lost twice, putting them in fourth place.

Jose Riveiro

José Mourinho

The Spanish tactician is in charge of Soweto giants Orlando Pirates. He has collected 11 points in six games he has been in charge of. Pirates are at the top of the table, with the only blight of his tenure, so far, a 1-0 loss to Chippa United.

They are playing an impressive brand of football under him, but continue to struggle to get goals.

Sekhukhune United are on five points from five games. The former SuperSport United coach has not started his tenure at the club too well. The club brought in several top players, but they have only managed one win, two draws and lost twice. They are in position 11 so far.

Like Sekhukhune, the new Chippa United coach has also accumulated five points. He won once, drew twice and suffered defeat twice. He registered his first victory as a coach after defeating his former team Pirates 1-0.

The French mentor is yet to celebrate a victory in the DStv Premiership. Marumo Gallants have four points after registering four straight draws and a loss. The team seem to be lacking in finding the back of the net. They have only scored three goals and sit at the basement of the table.

Arthur Zwane

The former Kaizer Chiefs player is still trying to settle down after a shaky start to the new season. Zwane has six points off two wins. He suffered a defeat to Royal AM, thrashed Maritzburg United 3-0 before they were humiliated by Mamelodi Sundowns 4-0 on Sunday. They edged Richards Bay 1-0 before Cape Town City then beat them, leaving them in ninth position.

Maritzburg United have collected six points from six games after a win and three draws and two losses. Their only win came over Chippa United while Maduka saw his charges go down to his former side Royal AM in their last game.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach got his first win of the season against AmaZulu in their last game. His second stint with SuperSport United has not started as he would have liked. In five games, he has drawn twice and lost twice.

The duo is also trying to settle and get the team to gel. Golden Arrows has only managed one win in five games. They drew twice, which leaves them in position 15 with five points. Arrows have only scored two goals in five games.
