How TS Galaxy fared in their European tour in Turkey

On Monday, TS Galaxy featured in their last match in Turkey, therefore, FARPost looks at how The Rockets fared in their European tour.

Galaxy are the first DStv Premiership side to embark on a trip overseas to prepare for the resumption of the 2022/23 season after the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup break in Qatar.

The Mbombela outfit played three friendly matches in the City of Antalya. They arranged matches against Giresunspor of Turkey, Italian side Sampdoria and Saudi Arabian outfit Al Batin.

VS GIRESUNSPOR

Galaxy kicked off their tour against the hosts Giresunspor on 6 December. They were held to a 1-1 draw. Galaxy started on a bright note as Lindokuhle Mbatha opened the scoring.

However, Giresunspor managed to pull one back to salvage a draw.

VS SAMPDORIA

In the second match, The Rockets were thrashed by Italian side in a six-goal thriller on 11 December. They suffered a heavy 5-1 on the day, Bathusi Aubaas scored for the DStv Premiership side to avoid a whitewash.

VS AL BATIN

In their final match on Monday, Sead Ramovic-led team played out to a one-all stalemate against Saudi Arabia side. Sibusiso Vilakazi was on target for the Galaxy.

The draw meant Galaxy ended their European without a victory and a clean sheet, that’s two draws and one defeat.

Despite being winless, there are some positives to take from The Rockets performances. Galaxy managed to score in all the three matches that they played.

The team has been struggling to find the back of the net in the league. After 12 matches played, they have only managed to score six goals.

Galaxy now shift their attention to the DStv Premiership which resumes on 30 December. They are preparing to take on bottom placed Maritzburg United, who have a new man in charge, Fadlu Davids.
