Maduna scores, as AmaZulu see off Swallows
AmaZulu claimed a hard fought 1-0 win over Swallows in the DStv Premiership tie at Dobsonville Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Dube Birds steamed into the first half brightly, dominating possession but missing a couple of clear cut chances.
As the half wore on, momentum swung back in Usuthu’s favour, pushing forward in numbers – searching for an opener without any luck.
However, it was Maswaiswai who spent the majority of the first period toiling at the finish line of their opponents.
The game went into the half-time break goalless.
In the second stanza, it was action-packed from both sides and the attempts on goal were in constant supply, making the game good viewing for spectators in the stands.
Twenty four minutes into the second half, Siphesihle Maduna broke the deadlock to put Brandon Truter’s side in front.
Swallows, on the other hand, began to cause the visitors problems with the aim of levelling matters, but their efforts were not good enough to break the KwaZulu-Natal club’s backline.
The final whistle blew, with Usuthu claiming all valuable three points.
As a result, AmaZulu are currently placed 7th on the table, while Dylan Kerr’s side are still fighting for their lives to avoid the relegation zone, as they are languishing at the bottom of the log standings [15th position].
