Hunt’s SuperSport hunting for more experienced players
Supersport United coach Gavin Hunt is hoping to get new players before the end of the transfer window as he feels they can’t rely on youngsters every week.
Matsatsatsa have started very slow under the tutelage of Hunt, who made a return after some time away coaching Bidvest Wits, Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United.
The Pretoria side lost to AmaZulu by 2-1 on Wednesday night at Moses Mabhida Stadium, which was their second match of the season after their draw in the opener against Chippa United.
In both matches, United have scored first but failed to protect their lead which has seen them draw and lose in their first two games.
Hunt is of the opinion that the team needs to add some senior players to guide the youngsters. He defended Thabani Sibanyoni, who had some good chances to punish Usuthu, and feels the former Tuks star is still not at his best in terms of fitness and will only get better with time.
“In our situation, we haven’t bought anybody; we’ve been getting players on loan. Sibanyoni will do the job. He is not 100 per cent fit. He has been with us for two weeks. We will get him fit; we will encourage him to do best,” Hunt told the media.
“We’ve got the smallest squad in the league. We have to be realistic and look for one or two new players, the young boys have done well today [Wednesday], but we can’t rely on them every week. We need to get senior players too.”
United are believed to be close to signing veteran attacking midfielder Bernard Parker and Wayde Jooste, and their next opponent is TS Galaxy, who are highly motivated after giving the defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns their first defeat of the season.
Hunt’s men will have to be much better than the last two games if they want to destroy well-coached Rockets on Sunday.
