I have no hard feelings about my AmaZulu exit—Mzava

Malawian defender Limbikani Mzava has said he has no hard feelings about being released by DStv Premiership side AmaZulu, saying he left with fond memories.

Mzava spoke to FARPost for the first time since AmaZulu released him alongside Neil Boshoff, Tapelo Xoki, Xola Mlambo, Luvuyo Memela, Philani Zulu, Tsepo Masilela, Kgotso Moleko, Henrick Ekstein, Abraham Majok, Thabo Qalinge, Siphelele Mthembu, Andre de Jong, Augustine Mulenga and Siyethemba Sithebe.

The Flames captain told FARPost that he will miss his former teammates and hopes they, too, will miss him.

“These things happen in football. I enjoyed my time there. I was home, and the owner took good care of me, and as for the rest of other stuff, it is all part of normal football challenges,” he said.

The former Bloemfontein Celtic man said he has fond memories of the positive vibe AmaZulu supporters injected into the team.

He suggested that the story could have been different last season had Covid-19 not made it impossible for the vociferous fans to watch matches.

“They are like those supporters for Celtic; they are so good. I miss them, and I hope they shall miss me too,” Mzava said.

The centre-back fell short of disclosing his next destination, saying the time was not ripe for him to announce his next move.

Mzava then challenged those who survived the purge and recruits to take the Durban side to greater heights.

“I wish them all the best and urge them to continue raising the brand of the team higher than where we left it. AmaZulu is like my second home. I look forward to reuniting with my former teammates on the pitch, although with a different team,” he said.

Mzava arrived in South Africa some nine years ago, first signing for Celtic, then jumping ship to join Mpumalanga Black Aces, followed by stints with Golden Arrows, Highlands Park, then AmaZulu.

In Malawi, he launched his professional career with Tigers before switching to Escom United while also leading Malawi under-17 team to the 2009 Africa Youth Championship finals in Algeria then the World Under-17 Cup the same year in Nigeria.

AmaZulu have since started replacing the players with recruits such as Thendo Mukumela, Veluyeke Zulu, Riaan Hanamub, Dumisani Zuma, Augustine Kwem and Gabadinho Mhango.

One of the axed AmaZulu players, Mulenga, has since pleaded with club president Sandile Zungu to consider reinstating him saying it was difficult for him to find a new team as he was injured.
