Jose Riveiro’s prediction for MTN8 semi-final against Sundowns
Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has made an interesting prediction following the MTN8 semi-final draw that pitted them against Mamelodi Sundowns.
While the Spaniard is aware of Sundowns’ dominance of local football, he insists he is unfazed by the defending MTN8 champions.
The Soweto giants reached the last four after defeating Royal AM 2-1 over the weekend away from home.
The Pirates and Downs draw got many people talking, describing it as one of the fascinating draws to look forward to.
Riveiro has made a prediction about the outcome of that tie, saying it will be an exciting affair.
“Otherwise, what can I say? It’s going to be an interesting game. The game is going to be played in one month, so it’s difficult to estimate how good the team will be at that moment in terms of confidence and fitness,” Riveiro told Orlando Pirates media.
“Basically, I think it is going to be an attractive match for the fans, coupled with plenty of emotions. I guess it is going to be decided in the second game, so my prediction is that it is going to be pretty equal games, hopefully with lots of goals.”
Pirates will look to reclaim the title after last hoisting it aloft in December 2020, following an impressive cup run where they went past Cape Town City and Kaizer Chiefs, as well as Bloemfontein Celtic, who they overcame in the final held at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
“However, we are very motivated to go until the end of this competition and, of course, hopefully, win it,” explained the Sea Robbers’ mentor.
Meanwhile, the Brazilians will be hoping to defend their title as they defeated Cape Town City in the final, having seen off Chiefs and Golden Arrows in the opening rounds.
Bafana Ba Style booked their semi-final spot after a 2-0 victory at home to cross-town rivals SuperSport United on Saturday.
The tournament’s first leg will be played on 1 and 2 October, while the second leg will take place on 22 and 23 October.
