Just weeks after turning down a proposal to sign South Africa international Kamohelo Mokotjo, Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly snubbed another big-name star.
Mokotjo was offered to Amakhosi earlier this month before he ended up being snapped up by Sekhukhune United.
The Soweto giants have rejected another proposal to sign a player returning from overseas. Ayanda Patosi returned to South Africa after parting ways with Iran side Foolad FC.
The club terminated the 30-year-old’s contract citing that he had behaved unprofessionally. A FARPost source has revealed that Chiefs were offered the player but indicated they were not keen on him.
AYANDA PATOSI OFFERED TO KAIZER CHIEFS
“He was offered to Kaizer Chiefs and he was keen on playing there, but they showed no interest in signing him,” the source said.
Patosi, who has also had stints in Belgium and the UAE, is reportedly open to considering a return to the PSL.
His last dance on the local scene was with Cape Town City, who have indicated they do not have the budget to sign him.
Chiefs are on a rebuilding exercise and seem to be keen on players below 30. Recently, they unveiled Congolese forward Christian Saile Basomboli, who joined them from Zambia’s Nchanga Rangers.
Saile made his debut for Chiefs over the weekend, with coach Arthur Zwane deploying him on the right wing.
Saile’s arrival was also announced with Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, a 24-year-old Botswana international from SuperSport. Ditlhokwe, who captains the Botswana national team, signed a pre-contract and will link up with Amakhosi in July.
SIGNING YOUNG PLAYERS
At the start of the season, the Soweto giants signed another 24-year-old forward, Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana. The Burundian turned 25 in November last year.
The club’s recent signings would suggest their strategy is to sign young players as they build a team for the future.
Zwane has also been gradually introducing youngsters from the club’s academy. Mdu Shabalala, Samkelo Zwane and Wandile Duba have featured for the club this season.
“We are obviously in a rebuilding phase. We are trying to build the way of playing as much as the results are fluctuating, but I have seen a lot of positive things and a lot of what we have been working on since the beginning of the season,” Zwane said recently.
“At some point, you’ll pay the price when you play with the youngsters in terms of the mistakes that you commit. Obviously, the game is the teacher, and most of them are improving. The more they play, the more they gain the experience.”
