Kermit Erasmus vows he’d never stay for money over game time

"Yes, the money is important don't get me wrong."

Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus has vowed that he’d never stay at a club for money over game time.

That is the reason why Kermit Erasmus left DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns to re-join Orlando Pirates back in September 2022.

The 32-year-old admitted that the salary at Sundowns was good, but the most important thing for him as a footballer is to stay on the pitch; play regularly and contribute to the team’s success.

In the 2021/22 PSL season, Erasmus struggled for game time at the Tshwane giants. This was due to stiff competition for places up front.

He only made 17 appearances in all competitions and found the back of the net four times.

So far in Pirates colours this campaign, Erasmus has scored two goals and provided four assists in 14 matches.

ERASMUS ON WHAT’S IMPORTANT TO HIM

“I wouldn’t allow myself to sit at a team where I wouldn’t play regularly just for the money. Yes the money is important don’t get me wrong,” said Erasmus.

“At the end of the day, it’s how relevant you want to stay and how serious you are with what you love doing.

“For me, football has been my bread and butter before the opportunity I was given in the beginning to start my career.”

Erasmus further reflected on the MTN8 semi-final second leg match where he faced his former club Sundowns.

The striker had a great match, started the game and opened the scoring as the Soweto giants thrashed their rivals 3-0 on the day to progress to the final of the competition which they later won.

“I had visioned what will happen in that game because I knew I will join Pirates before it happened. What I showed on the field was that class is permanent,” he said.

“What went through my mind that day was just pure hard work, being patient and waiting for my moment.

“The way I acted on that game was no hatred towards nobody. It was just passion I have, I love the game.”
