Latest on Sibusiso Mabiliso to AmaZulu
FARPost sources have told this publication that former Kaizer Chiefs left-back Sibusiso Mabiliso is in Durban, where he is expected to finalise his move to AmaZulu.
AmaZulu coach Brandon Truter recently revealed that they were keen on bringing the defender back to Usuthu after he part company with Chiefs.
“He is a quality player, and every coach would like to have a quality player in his team.
“Right now, we have good left-backs in Mxolisi Kunene and Riaan Hanamub as well, adding Mabiliso brings quality and competition among the team,” Truter told the media.
The former youth international was recently shown the exit door after a difficult spell at Naturena.
He had joined the club at the start of the 2021/22 season on the back of a successful term under Benni McCarthy at AmaZulu.
However, things did not go according to plan at Chiefs, as he struggled to get game time.
“He’s in Durban as we speak, and a deal should be concluded this week, barring any hiccups,” a source told FARPost.
Relations between the player, his previous management and the club were a little fractured following his acrimonious departure from the Durban side.
However, SABC Sport this week reported that reconciliation talks had been fruitful.
The public broadcaster quoted Mabiliso’s agent, Basia Michael of QT Sports, as saying talks were ongoing for a potential return to the Durban-based outfit.
“AmaZulu are the frontrunners. After consultations, we have repaired the relationship between the president [Sandile Zungu] and the player, with the president saying, post our meeting and certain conversations, this is where we find ourselves because things were previously done erroneously,” Michaels told SABC Sport.
Other clubs that were interested in the former Platinum Stars fullback were SuperSport United, TS Galaxy and Cape Town City.
