Lucky Lekgwathi on why Pirates got it right with defensive duo

Orlando Pirates reinforced their leaky defence that let in 28 goals, signing Tapelo Xoki from AmaZulu FC and Nkosinathi Sibisi from Golden Arrows.

Former Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi is convinced his former team has brought in two leaders who are equally capable and bring good track records. Both players captained their KZN teams before switching to the Bucs.

The treble-winning skipper, Lekgwathi, singled out Xoki as the best addition for the Soweto giants and suggests he can fit in well at the club.

“I watched Xoki play, and I think he’s an excellent player who can add value at the club, he’s been doing well for AmaZulu at the back, and he comes with good leadership qualities, and for the team [AmaZulu] to concede fewer goals under his leadership it says a lot about him,” he told FARPost.

Sibisi, who started for Bafana Bafana against France in March, started his career at Arrows as a reserve team player before becoming a first-team regular.

Sibisi made 100 appearances in the PSL and scored three times for the KwaZulu-Natal side.

‘Captain Fantastic’ further advised the newly signed duo.

“Every time a new player is joining Orlando Pirates, I always say that Pirates is different from any other team, the pressure to perform week in week out can be too much for some players, that’s why there are players who come to the team after performing well for their previous teams but struggle when they get to Pirates,” said the 45-year old retired defender
