Maela reveals why Pirates’ new signings are thriving under Riveiro
Orlando Pirates captain Innocent Maela has revealed why most of the club’s new signings have settled in well and are thriving under coach Jose Riveiro.
He pinpoints Riveiro’s strategy as the main reason for the new players hitting the ground running at the Soweto giants.
The Bucs brought in several new faces ahead of the new DStv Premiership season.
Most of the signings have impressed so far. Kermit Erasmus, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Thapelo Xoki and Miguel Timm to name a few.
“I think it’s the strategy the coach has created within the team. Everyone know their role, everyone knows what’s expected from them,” Maela told the media at the Soweto derby presser at Johannesburg.
“Regardless of who’s playing you’ll be given the tools and guidelines for you to go out there and perform. It’s been working, so far so good.
“When you look at the squads, it’s two different squads. This season was a fresh start, a new coach a new technical team.”
However, not all Pirates new acquisitions have been excellent. Bienvenu Eva Nga is the only one who hasn’t done well for the club.
He impressed on his first match, scoring the only goal of the match against Swallows FC.
What followed was a disaster as he was missing golden scoring opportunities; firing blanks. This led Eva Nga to sit on the bench and lack game time.
Maela further stated that unity and togetherness has kept the club going so far this season.
“I think this season we’ve been together, we’ve been united, we are very ambitious it’s working for us.
“It will be unfair for me to compare last season and this season as if everyone who was here last season is still here. We heading into the right direction,” Maela added.
