MaMkhize breaks silence on Mabena saga

Royal AM president Shauwn Mkhize has broken her silence on the issue of Ndumiso Mabena after the striker parted ways with the club.

Mabena can join any club of his choice as a free agent even after the transfer window has shut down.

Mabena was one of the top players for Bloemfontein Celtic before the club relocated to Durban after Mkhize bought their status.

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED…

As the club moved to KwaZulu-Natal, there were talks that Mabena was one of the players that did not want to move to Royal AM.

As a result, he did not play much at Royal AM last campaign, and there were reports of the striker potentially sealing a move to one of the Gauteng sides during the January transfer window.

However, that did not transpire. And at the beginning of the season, it emerged that Mabena was unhappy at Thwihli Thwahla, and he has since parted ways with the club.

The club owner, MaKhize, has since revealed that there were legal disputes between Mabena and Royal AM.

MAMKHIZE ON MABENA

MaKhize says there was an agreement with Swallows for Mabena to join the club, but the striker was against it and decided to take the matter to the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC), and the player won the case.

“Last season, there was a club-to-club agreement between Swallows and us,” MaKhize told Ukhozi FM.

“Mabena came to us and said we should’ve come to him before making that decision, and at that time, the deal was already made.

“We told him to go to Swallows, but he didn’t want to, then he went to PSL DRC, and there was an order to pay him, and for the month of July, which he didn’t report back to work.

“He then went to court again, and we couldn’t pay him for not reporting to work.” MamKhize added: “Mabena asked us to pay him for a year, but we agreed to pay him four months.

“And we gave him his clearance; he is now a free agent.”

The former striker is linked with several clubs, including a return to Pirates with another two DStv Premiership clubs said to be knocking on his door.
