Royal AM president Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize has spoken out on prospects of reuniting with the club’s former coach John Maduka.
Her remarks come after rumours linking Maduka with a return to the club after his axing by Maritzburg United this week.
Maduka left Thwihli Thwahla abruptly at the end of last season after guiding them to the CAF Confederation Cup.
His exit broke MaMkhize’s heart, and she did not hold back expressing her disappointment at his sudden departure.
With coach Dan Malesela gone after leaving Royal AM for his old club Marumo Gallants, the Durban side were reported to be searching for a replacement.
However, MaMkhize has since cleared the air on the matter. “Coach Maduka was a good one. I think what happened at Maritzburg United was unfortunate. For now, we are not looking for a new coach,” MaMkhize told Ukhozi FM.
“The other coaches [Khabo Zondo and Abram Nteo] have been good to us through the good, the bad and the ugly. So, for now, we are not looking for a new coach.”
However, she did not rule out the possibility of a reunion one day “because the coach is special to the club”.
“For now, we are still good, but maybe things will change. Maduka will always be good and special to us.”
Royal AM need to overturn a 2-0 deficit when they host TP Mazembe at Moses Mabhida Stadium next week.
MaMkhize is on record saying she is unhappy over the treatment they got in the first leg of their Confederation Cup clash in DRC.
However, she urged South Africans not to revenge but to rally behind local teams playing in the competition.
Cape Town City and Marumo Gallants are the other teams playing in the CAF Confederation Cup.
“We got bad treatment in DRC, but we will never ask our supporters to do the same. Instead, we ask people to come in their numbers and be with all South African teams.”
