Maritzburg announce sacking of Maduka

As reported by FARPost, Maritzburg United on Thursday announced the sacking of head coach John Maduka with immediate effect after a poor start to the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.

Maduka joined Maritzburg at the beginning of the the season following an impressive stint at Royal AM in their maiden season in the top flight.

The Malawian mentor was roped in at the Maritzburg as the successor of Ernest Midderdorp, who was fired last campaign as the club was continuously involved in relegation battles.

The Team of Choice hierarchy had high hopes in Maduka as the tactician helped Royal AM to achieve top a three finish in the league and quality for the CAF Confederation Cup.

However, but the soft-spoken coach failed to stamp his authority with indications that he lost control of the Maritzburg change room.

THE CLUB STATEMENT

“Maritzburg United can confirm that head coach John Maduka has left the club with immediate effect,” the club confirmed in a statement.

“The club has also terminated the contracts of Maduka’s entire back room staff.

“We would like to thank John and his technical team for their efforts and we wish them well for the future,”

The club further announced that the process of appointing a new coach is underway with Fladu Davids believed to be the next man to take over the reins as reported by this publication.

“The process of identifying and appointing a new head coach is underway and the will make an announcement in due course,” concluded the statement.

United will be hoping to use the FIFA World Cup break to rebuild a competitive team and move up the log.

Maritzburg have won only two games, drawing five and losing in six outings and they are rooted at the basement of the league table after 13 games played.

The KwaZulu-Natal side holds the record of worst defensive run as they have conceded a whopping 19 goals while scoring only six goals.

A record that the in-coming technical team will have to improve to change the club fortunes as Maritzburg are at the bottom of the log standings after 13 games.
