Marumo Gallants detained duo touch down SA
Marumo Gallants detained duo of team manager Rufus Matsena and therapist Dina Dhlomo have landed safely in South Africa on Monday morning, 10 April 2023.
The Gallants duo that were detained will be reunited with their families as they have set foot on home soil.
This comes after the two Marumo Gallants officials were held hostage in Benghazi, Libya.
The DStv Premiership outfit could not book flight tickets, hotel and other logistics because of Ramadan. This was when they had to play Al Akhdar in a CAF Confederation Cup Group A on the 19th of March 2023.

“We are very much delighted that we are back home,” team manager Matsena told the media on their arrival at OR Tambo International airport.
“You know, there’s no prize that you can place in terms of the feelings that we have right now. We are very excited.
“And if there’s anything that needs to be said, tomorrow there will be a press and all will be revealed.”
The return of Matsena and Dhlomo comes after a successful meeting held last week Thursday.
The meeting involved Gallants, Dr Elzargha, SAFA, the Libyan embassy in South Africa, the now released detained duo. As well as South Africa’s ambassador to Tunisia, where an agreement was reached for the pair to return home.
In a statement released by the club this past Saturday, Gallant’s chairman Abram Sello stated that they were immensely relieved that their staff will be returning home safely.
Sello went on to express his gratitude to all the parties who were involved in bringing Matsena and Dhlomo home.
“We would like to thank all parties that assisted in us getting to this point,” said Sello.
The club will host an official press briefing in due course. The venue and time is yet to be confirmed.
