Micho’s message to Mammila: Coaching is like fishing

Former Orlando Pirates coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has urged his ‘personal friend’ Morgan Mammila to continue working hard at Chippa United as coaching is like fishing.

Micho was responding to FARPost’s question on whether he was surprised by Mammila’s seamless transition. He has transitioned from football administration into coaching.

COACHING IS THE SAME AS FISHING

Micho said Mammila has done extremely well at Chippa, but he needs to keep his feet on the ground.
“Working in coaching is the same as fishing, in one moment, the fish is slipping away from you,” Micho said.

“Four consecutive wins, records for the Chippa team in respectable place on the log table is part of his work.”

Uganda’s Cranes mentor said he was not surprised that Mammila has hit the ground running in his first coaching job.

“I am extremely proud of Morgan Mammila. He has proved that the person is committed, dedicated, hardworking, wholehearted and focused,” he said.

“…his experience in football. Able to recognize and do the job for Chippa is simply. For me, not surprising because I have a high degree of respect for him. He is my personal friend.”

THE NEXT STEP FOR CHIPPA COACH…

The former Zamalek trainer said the next step for Mammila was for him to strive for consistency in performance.

“…he needs to continue, only consistency in the performance of results will prove a point that he has value. Otherwise, I feel extremely proud of him as his personal friend,” he added.

Mammila recently said he learned a lot from coaches such as Micho when he was in charge of Pirates.

The former Baroka CEO said he would call some of the coaches to learn why they deployed particular tactics.

He said the experience has proved handy in his blossoming coaching career, which saw him steer Chippa to four successive wins.

It is the first time that the Chilli Boys have won such consecutive games in some eight years.
Chippa management took many by surprise when it recalled Mammila in a coaching capacity.

He had served the team as an administrator, but this time around, he was hired as a caretaker coach.
Mammila filled the void created by the sacking of Daine Klate, who survived barely weeks on the job.

Klate, too, had replaced Kurt Lentjies, who, with Mmamila then working as CEO, shared the technical bench with months ago.

Lentjies was ushered to the helm following the departure of Gavin Hunt. Chippa are notorious for sacking coaches and have hired some 17 permanent trainers since 2011.
