Mngqithi names Chiefs player who deserves top gong

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has named the one player he feels deserves the player of the season gong.

Besides the Downs trio of Peter Shalulile, Andile Jali, and Themba Zwane, Mngqithi is convinced their former player Keagan Dolly was a cut above the rest.

While Amakhosi, who are in fourth place in the DStv Premiership table, have had a difficult season, the Brazilians mentor still believes the Bafana Bafana’s maiden season in the gold and black has been fairly impressive.

Dolly who joined Amakhosi this season from French Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier has scored seven goals and provided five assists in 24 league appearances.

“I also think Keagan Dolly deserves it [Player of the Season]. He had a very good season as well and for that he deserves it,” Mngqithi said.

The former Golden Arrows coach also believes Chiefs’ Nkosingiphile Ngcobo was going to have a good season also, only if he had enough game time.

“The young Ngcobo from Kaizer Chiefs, a central midfielder. I believe that boy had he had more appearances this season, there was a lot that he could have offered.”

However, the first name Mngqithi mentioned when picking the players that have impressed him was Shalulile.

The Namibian has scored 22 goals and provided five assists in 28 matches, Zwane has five goals and seven assists to his name in 24 appearances and midfield maestro Andile Jali has one goal and two assists in 22 matches.

“I have seen a lot from my team and think Peter Shalulile deserves the Player of the Year award. So do Themba Zwane and AJ [Andile Jali], honestly speaking. In terms of the Player of the Season award, those that I have mentioned, all deserve it,” he concluded.
