Mngqithi tips Mudau for Bafana call-up

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi believes it’s only a matter of time before right-back Khuliso Mudau gets a call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad.

Mudau has been on fine form for Masandawana this season with a few Man of the Match performances.

The 26-year-old was once called up to the Bafana set-up for the COSAFA Cup in 2019 while he was still with Black Leopards but was unable to play due to paperwork issues.

Speaking after the player was voted man of the match during the 3-0 win against TS Galaxy on Wednesday evening, Mnqgithi believes it’s only a matter of time before Bafana coaches notice him.

“Mudau has done very well from the beginning of the season up until now. I fully agree with you (on deserving Bafana call-up),” said Mngqithi.

“He has been one of our standout performers. That’s why he has made life even difficult for Thapelo (Morena) in that space. We still believe, as Sundowns coaches, that he still has a little more to give. The potential of that boy is bigger than what everybody else thinks.

“Defensively, he is very solid offensively he has a lot of good qualities. He can even play as a central midfielder which I think helps him to be able to solve some tactical or technical issues that are demanded in the game,” he said.

“I think he is one of the few modern fullbacks that can invert playing in a central position, comfortable playing in wide channels, comfortable taking on opponents one against one. Those are very big attributes and defensively very powerful and very quick as well for somebody you would never think he is that quick.

“I am sure it’s a matter of time before the national team coach sees him, but I am very confident he will get into the national team very soon.”
